Components of the fuel system are often the first parts to require replacement on any outdoor power equipment. The parts found in the fuel system of most Stihl models consist of a fuel filter, a fuel line, a gas tank and gas tank cap. OEM Stihl fuel filters are easily identifiable from other brands because of the orange plastic body. Stihl is also unique from many other brands of equipment due to the use of a molded rubber fuel line on most models. Two styles of fuel tank cap are commonly found on Stihl models. The older basic cap which usually has slotted groove for easier removal with flat screwdriver; and the newer cap with a flip up tab. Fuel tanks, or gas tanks, on Stihl models are either separate molded units or molded as part of the handle and body of the equipment.
